How Psychedelic Therapy Fuses Indigenous Shamanism with Western Science

Anthropologists studying the ceremonial use of psychedelic plants often write about the skillful manner in which shamans guide their patients into “managed altered states of consciousness”. Such techniques are routinely employed by indigenous healers at the Takiwasi Center in Peru, a world-leading treatment and research facility where traditional Amazonian medicine is combined with Western psychotherapy. Our scientific director, Dr Matteo Politi, has been interviewed by IFLScience for this piece on Psychedelic Therapy.

International Scientific Meeting - Summer 2022

Our scientific director Matteo Politi will represent Takiwasi at the next Summer International Scientific Meeting with the presentation “Implementation of the Nagoya Protocol on access and benefit sharing in Peru: Implications for researchers”. The meeting will take place online from January 2 to 4, 2022 and is co-organized by the International Scientific and Technological Council of Peru together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, CONCYTEC, Ricardo Palma University and the National Engineering University (UNI).

This set of online courses is open to anyone interested in alternative and natural medicine and especially to health professionals, cross-cultural experts, educators, therapists and others linked to the work of rehabilitation, study of addictions and modified states consciousness, as well as the use of psychoactive substances.
