Admission and Cost

Admission to Takiwasi is a short process, but not immediate and can never be done in hurry. We appreciate the collaboration of family members in the first place, but after the first contact all communication should be directly between the patient and Takiwasi, since all admission criteria are based on the evaluation of the patient's personal motivation.

We suggest that the first contact be made by sending an e-mail with the subject "Request for treatment" to cterapia@takiwasi.com.

Once the first contact is made, the therapeutic team will indicate the steps to follow.

At the beginning it is requested to complete a basic medical evaluation and a motivation-presentation letter from a form. The process also requires some phone interviews, or preferably via Skype, in order to evaluate more directly any possible doubts that may arise, evaluate the basic knowledge of Spanish, but above all to investigate the motivation of the person for the treatment.

If the candidate and his family agree with the treatment conditions and the indications during the admission process are met, a financial agreement will be established and the therapeutic team will inform the date of admission.

Admission Criteria

The letter of motivation-presentation includes questions about the personal and addictive history (substances consumed, frequency and duration of consumption, treatment attempts, criminal record, past and present diseases, as well as Personal Motivations to follow the treatment. The applicant must also fill out a Health Form, sign a Commitment Letter and fill out the Therapeutic Contract together with the relative in charge. These documents will be delivered in original at the time of admission.

According to the Peruvian law, Takiwasi can only accept in residential treatment male patients between 18 and 50 years of age. For women seeking for residential treatment we can recommend contacts or we can eventually offer the Retreat/Diet in Takiwasi as a possible preliminary step in their therapeutic process, always after evaluating their personal situation.

According to the vacancies and to the coordination made, the date of admission is fixed. Therefore, it is scheduled according to availability and, in general, the wait lasts a maximum of one month. There is no specific date of admission during the year.

The first three months there will be no direct contact between the patient and his family members. Avoiding all contact with the outside world is intended to facilitate reflection and awareness. However, family members may contact at any time the designated psychologist of the Center for information and news.

Takiwasi reserves the right of admission and may suspend treatment if considers it appropriate, mainly when there are issues in accepting treatment conditions, rules of coexistence, etc. We accept in residential treatment only people who present an addiction problem, be it to legal or illegal substances, or some addictive behavior (bets, games, sex, computer, pornography, compulsive shopping, etc.). The patient's personal motivation is important for Takiwasi's therapeutic commitment.

Takiwasi is a rehabilitation center open to people capable, despite their pathology or suffering, of assuming a minimum of personal autonomy and community coexistence. For the following particular cases that present conditions that are a priori unfavorable for residence in Takiwasi, a more detailed evaluation will be carried out on a case-by-case basis:

  • A severe dependence on psychotropic medications superimposed on drugs consumption;
  • A severe psychiatric condition (psychosis, schizophrenia, etc.) prior to drug use;
  • A severe or terminal organic pathology (especially very advanced immune deficiencies);
  • A disability seriously affecting the degree of autonomy;
  • A marked lack of sociability preventing coexistence;
  • The need for medical follow-up or specialized or constant assistance;

The applicant is asked to check the condition of their teeth before admission, in order to avoid the interruption of the process in the Center due to dental treatments.

Apart from special cases and mainly for local patients, Takiwasi does not offer outpatient addiction treatment.

Treatment Costs

For all inquiries about the treatment cost please write to cterapia@takiwasi.com. Payment is made in advance at the beginning of each month, without refund if the treatment is interrupted during that month by the patient's own will or by therapeutic decision for non-compliance with the Center's rules or the commitments made.

This cost covers all the expenses of residence and treatment inside the Center. It does not include external consultations and treatments for other medical specialties that could emerge during the treatment. An additional amount shall be foreseen for other expenses, such as mail, phone calls, clothes, etc. For these charges a minimum initial deposit will be required. A relative will be identified as economically responsible, and will sign an agreement with the Center's administration office.

For people from abroad an average of $100 dollars should be considered every three months, to regularize their visa with the National Migration Office after the expiration of the first visa. When entering Perú it is recommended to apply for a tourist visa for six months, with the possibility that the immigration authority accepts it or limits the period to three months. To be admitted to the treatment, the presentation of a repatriation insurance (accident/illness/death) will be required and will have to be contracted by the applicant in the country of origin. The patient must have an open return ticket valid for one year or make a deposit to cover the purchase of a return ticket at any time.

The management of the economic and administrative aspects will be exclusively between the Center’s administration office (administracion@takiwasi.com) and the relative in charge. Therapists and resident patients are not included in this relationship, staying totally aloof from this aspect in order to protect the therapeutic bond.

Takiwasi offers the possibility of grants for low income patients. In this case, a payment agreement (frequency-amount) will be proposed after a study of the socio-economic situation of the patient and his family. Takiwasi always tries to provide a solution for indigent patients and has never rejected for economic reasons a person really motivated to be cured.
