Women’s association from Cajamarca visiting Takiwasi

These days we are receiving the visit at the Takiwasi Center and Takiwasi Laboratory of the members of the Association of Women Defenders of Life and Pachamama, from Cajamarca, accompanied by the NGO Grufides.

Grufides is an environmental NGO from Cajamarca recognized for defending the rights of communities affected by mining activities. Among his interventions, in addition to legal defense, organizational strengthening and environmental monitoring we find the strengthening of economic alternatives for women producing medicinal plants.

The Association of Women Defenders of Life and Pachamama is made up of people from 18 different communities in the provinces of Cajamarca and Celendín, mostly women involved in human rights defense and some women with solidarity economy ventures based on medicinal plants. It is an association that proposes economic models as alternative to extractivism, based on the sustainable use of native biodiversity, as well as the rescue of traditional knowledge.

This association is carrying out a work similar to Takiwasi, with ethnobotanical studies of the medicinal plants of the jalca (high Andean ecosystem) of Cajamarca and biochemical analysis of the presence of phytochemical compounds with medicinal or nutraceutical potential.

This meeting is an excellent opportunity to share with an organization with similar interests our experience in terms of rescue, conservation and revaluation of Amazonian ancestral knowledge.
