The role of ikaros and ayahuasca in the treatment of substance use
The research on the role of the ikaros during ayahuasca ceremonies carried out in Takiwasi by Owain Graham, PhD candidate in ethnomusicology at University of California Riverside, has been widely disseminated in different media, based on an interview that Owain has offered to the communications department of his university.
The research has been published in the academic journal Anthropology of Consciousness and analyzes the listening experiences of ikaros during ayahuasca ceremonies at the Takiwasi Center. Some results that emerge are the therapeutically significant impact of ikaros, as they allow patients to feel safe while at the same time guiding them through difficult memories and emotions and facilitating healing and learning experiences about their addictions triggered by ayahuasca ingestion.

Testimony of a participant in a Retreat/Diet
"This experience was for me the deepest I have ever lived, I was able to delve into myself to depths I had never reached before despite many experiences: Vipassana, prolonged fasting, holotropic breathing, trance states, dervish dances, etc.
In retrospect, I am convinced that the feeling of security due to the specific Takiwasi protocol (psychological support, framework, protection, benevolence, professionalism, experience, supervision) is a decisive element of this exploration. I never would have gone so deep into myself if I hadn't felt so safe. So, I allowed myself to fully explore and accept my vulnerability.
The delicacy with which the plants have accompanied me has also been a very important vector. It's as if they wanted to remind me that this sweetness was vital to me and that I had the right (and even the duty) to offer me a sweet relationship on a daily basis, instead of violating myself into hyperactivity.
Plants are essential for my balance and I experienced it once again. Their generosity was very touching; the day before I left, I felt great sadness and nostalgia at the thought of leaving the forest."

Evidence of the Impact of the ceremonial use of ayahuasca in a Healing Center in Bolivia
We share an article by Hilvert Timmer, founder of the center Quinta Conciencia (Samaipata, Bolivia) published in Pachakuti – political analysis magazine of the Vice Presidency of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, with the intention of continuing to raise awareness about the importance of the use of Andean-Amazonian master plants for comprehensive health.
Abstract Ayahuasca is an ancestral entheogenic plant of great power and great importance among the Amazonian indigenous peoples. Despite the little recognition it enjoys in Bolivia, during the last ten years it has begun to gain increasing recognition among spiritual explorers of the Western world and scientists from the branches of neuroscience and psychiatry. It is a concoction of plants that requires proper use in order to receive the benefits in physical, mental and spiritual health, which means a preparation based on Amazonian tradition and the guidance of a healer with extensive experience within a ritual framework. Both scientific studies and the testimonies of indigenous peoples confirm this, despite the profound differences between their respective worldviews. Scientific studies unanimously confirm the great potential of Ayahuasca as a mystical, effective and safe tool for psychological and psychiatric treatments, which can generate conscious changes in the well-being and in the life of the participants in the ceremonies, acutely and for a long time, without any adverse effect. In this study we confirm the evidence of therapeutic potential through an analysis of the experiences of 40 participants in Amazonian ceremonies performed in a healing center located in the heart of Bolivia. It is highlighted that the effects in the inner world of the participants, that is to say at the level of their worldview, demonstrate a long-lasting impact that is manifested in concrete and often profound changes in the daily life of the participants, which could be further reinforced through accompaniment and subsequent exercises.

Canta la Ayahuasca - Healing Ikaros
Ikaros are essential elements of Traditional Amazonian Medicine and constitute a source of cultural resistance by preserving both linguistic elements and knowledge related to Amazonian world-view and medicinal resources, which go back in time to the original cultures. They are the essential means to transmit wisdom and healing practices. This concept led us to call our center "Takiwasi" that in Quechua means "the house that sings" or "the house of song", to honor this tradition.
On our website we offer for sale the ikaros sung by the healers of Takiwasi. The revenues generated from the sale of these products is entirely destined to support Takiwasi in the treatment and rehabilitation of people with limited economic resources who suffer from drug addiction.

Takiwasi Center Online Courses
We want to invite you to enroll in our online courses:
- Introducción al modelo terapéutico Takiwasi:
11 pre-registered classes taught in Spanish by the therapeutic team of the Takiwasi Center. Topics such as Traditional Amazonian Medicine are addressed, including the presentation of specific techniques such as plant baths and purges, and the application of Western psychological approaches in the treatment of addictions, such as existential psychotherapies and the analysis of trans-generational inheritances.
-
Coherencias entre la iniciación cristiana y la iniciación amazónica: taught in Spanish by Dr. Jacques Mabit, course based on 5 pre-registered videos. The experience of the Takiwasi Center shows us that there are numerous and surprising points of coherence and convergence between the Christian faith and Amazonian shamanism (when correctly understood and practiced). This course attempts to highlight the relevance of bringing these two paths of knowledge closer together and articulating them appropriately in favor of opening new paths for the healing of the body, mind and spirit.
