Testimony of a patient of the Takiwasi Center

Luis is a 23-year-old from the town of Chazuta in the Amazon region of San Martin, Peru. He came to Takiwasi to get out of his addiction to drugs, mainly PBC and cocaine, and successfully completed a 9-month treatment which combines the use of medicinal plants and psychotherapy.

Despite having relatives that are considered healers and use Ayahuasca, he tried this sacred brew for the first time only once he entered Takiwasi. This experience helped him open his eyes to his problem and facilitate certain changes within him, starting with learning to ask for forgiveness and allowing him to approach spirituality again. This is his testimony.

Online Course: Consistencies Between Christian Initiation and Amazonian initiation

We would like to invite you to enroll in the online course “Coherencias entre la iniciación cristiana y la iniciación amazónica” taught in Spanish by Dr. Jacques Mabit, executive president and founder of the Takiwasi Center.

Presentation
The approach to traditional Amazonian medicines by Westerners is often conceived from a negative reaction towards their own Christian roots, be it due to ignorance of the authentic content of the Christian faith, dissatisfaction with the teachings or examples of believers, or rejection of the structure of the Church perceived as moralistic and dogmatic. In a paradoxical way, ancestral wisdom commands to receive the inheritances of the ancestors, accept them and reconcile with them. The experience of the Takiwasi Center shows us that not only are there no fundamental contradictions between the Christian faith and Amazonian shamanism (correctly understood and practiced) but rather numerous and surprising coherences and convergences, both in practice and in the references of the Scriptures. This course attempts to highlight the relevance of bringing these two paths of knowledge closer together and articulating them appropriately in favor of opening new paths for the healing of the body, mind and spirit.

Structure and duration
The course is based on 5 pre-registered videos and is structured in five parts:
     - Part 1. What Christianity and what shamanism are we talking about? - 1 hour 13 minutes.
     - Part 2. The clinic of our therapeutic practice 1/2 - 1 hour 20 minutes.
     -
Part 3. The clinic of our therapeutic practice 2/2 - 1 hour 17 minutes.
     - Part 4. Meeting points between shamanism and Christianity 1/2 - 1 hour 15 minutes.
     - Part 5. Meeting points between shamanism and Christianity 2/2 - 1 hour 15 minutes.
Total duration of the course: 6 hours and 20 minutes.

Cat's Claw - Promoting Sustainable Development in the Peruvian Amazon

The chain of sustainable use of Cat's Claw contributes to conserving the forest where this medicinal plant grows and to highlighting the immense heritage represented by the knowledge of traditional Amazonian medicine that is put at the service of the entire Peruvian population. The ancestral wisdom of the indigenous communities has allowed us to know and study the great healing properties of the medicinal plants of the Amazonian forests. In the San Martín region, the native community of Chirik Sacha, together with the Association of Producers of Medicinal Plants “Ampik Sacha” and the Takiwasi Laboratory, has been taking advantage of Cat's Claw, one of the Amazonian medicinal plants best known in the world, through a sustainable management plan.

Retreats/Diets at Takiwasi

We share a new written testimony about the Retreat/Diet at Takiwasi:

"After many years of drinking multiple times over a weekend with self-proclaimed 'shamans' or up to 7 times in 2 weeks at other retreat centers I was convinced I knew the potential of Ayahuasca. That's until I went to Takiwasi. The Experience and Healing that I received from that one Dieta, Ceremony, Plant bath and the two purges (one preliminary and one during) profoundly exceeded all those previous times. Even though I had some beautiful experiences I'd trade it all for the grace and grit the Dieta gives you./p>

Like many people who felt the call to drink this medicine my main focus was primarily on the Ayahuasca brew and the visionary states but I didn't take into account just how special the other Jungle plants are for revealing subconscious trauma, strengthening our will power, cultivating knowledge, removing blockages cultivated over our lives from substances, diet, lifestyle and our personal relationships and even the ancestral/soul healing that can occur with deeper work.” Daniel Barnes, 26/7/2021.

The dates of the following Retreats/Diets for 2021 are:

  •  15 - 25 September
  •  13 - 23 Octobert
  •  17 - 27 November
  •  08 - 18 December
