I am so grateful to the plants for their teachings and care and to the Takiwasi team for their professionalism, kindness and the protective framework they offer before-during-and after the retreat. I feel privileged to have been able to benefit from their good care and to have been able to work with these magnificent plants. A big thank you."

Perception disorders and relationship to the invisible world

We present to you the new article by Dr. Jacques Mabit.

"Perception disorders" are commonly understood to mean any alteration of the natural senses of human beings that allow them to grasp reality. In the manifestations of these distortions of the grasp of reality, there are different forms of visual or auditory hallucinations (hearing voices), the perception of invisible "presences", so-called paranormal phenomena, guessing the thoughts of others, nightmarish dreams, negative obsessions, destructive impulses, unspeakable thoughts, etc. Based on our clinical and therapeutic experience of more than three decades, we propose a reconsideration of the physical and/or psychological pathological origin of these disorders to broaden it by taking into account non-natural causes relating to the invisible world.

On this subject, it is necessary to redefine or renew the old religious terminologies relegated to the past and which no longer "speak" to our contemporaries (fallen angels, demons, impure spirits, possession, vexation, etc.). Many people described as delusional or subject to their imagination, refuse medical-psychiatric categorizations, feel helpless and wonder whether they themselves (or a loved one) are struggling with invisible malignant entities. Is it possible, for sure, to know it, and what to do in this kind of distressing situation? In this article, we propose to approach this theme, going to the essentials, with a simple and accessible approach, and by trying to provide some pragmatic key elements, to recognize the origin of these disorders, diagnose them, choose the appropriate professionals and approach their treatment.

Advantages and limitations of using Ayahuasca in a therapeutic context

Given the enormous diffusion of the use of Ayahuasca, in sometimes inappropriate contexts, with the risks of solitary self-consumption or in recreational and festive environments, it seems appropriate to briefly recall the advantages and limitations of its use, which is above all therapeutic since it is a medicine, and as such has indications and contraindications.

Revised and translated extracts from the article published in French « Ayahuasca, addictions et états modifiés de conscience », Dr. Jacques Mabit, 2007.

Rosa Giove: itinerary and vision of traditional Amazonian medicines

Dr. Rosa Giove Nakazawa, who co-founded the Takiwasi Center, left us two years ago. She was the “Mama Rosa” of the patients… A woman passionate about life, with intellectual liveliness, a huge heart and a mysterious and inspired connection with the invisible world. With her healer’s soul, she took on academic and theoretical challenges as well as the challenges of clinical practice and participation in official institutional health structures. Her sharp intelligence and refreshing spontaneity allowed her to move in very different spaces where she knew how to be respected and loved in a natural way.

Rosa radiated a particular light that marked many people and is still present today in the initiation-therapeutic processes of many people, illuminating their path, even for people who never met her in person, and especially for women.

In a 2017 audio interview with Cristina del Águila, transcribed here, she revealed these different facets of her personality and her enthusiastic defense of traditional Amazonian medicines. In her unique style, she tells us where this interest came from and reveals what plants have taught her. We share the full interview in Spanish, which includes some historical photos.

Ikaros Catalogue

We share the complete catalogue of our ikaros, which includes the new production made to celebrate the 30 years of work in Takiwasi of our director Jaime Torres.

The ikaros are essential elements of Traditional Amazonian Medicine and constitute a source of cultural resistance by preserving both linguistic elements and knowledge related to Amazonian world-view and medicinal resources. They are the essential means of transmitting wisdom and healing practices. This concept led us to call our center "Takiwasi" that in Quechua means "the house that sings" or "the house of song", to honor this tradition.
