Ikaros Jaime Torres - 30 years

New ikaros production, celebrating 30 years of work at Takiwasi of our director Jaime Torres.

"This list of ikaros corresponds to an approximate sequence that I use in the ayahuasca ceremonies that I lead at Takiwasi. There is an ikaro sung by Veronika Kavenská, psychologist at Takiwasi, and another sung by Edgardo Tuanama, healer at Takiwasi. I also thought it appropriate to include some ikaros that we performed in the 2nd part of the ceremony, in chorus, with the participation of Verónika, Edgardo, and Fabienne Bâcle, all therapists at Takiwasi and practitioners of traditional Amazonian medicine. I hope you enjoy this material and that it connects you to the experience lived at Takiwasi.

I express my gratitude to the ayahuasca masters, for teaching us and allowing us to use their ikaros in the healing of so many patients who have passed through Takiwasi during my 30 years of work” - Jaime Torres.

Experiences of Listening to Icaros during Ayahuasca Ceremonies at Centro Takiwasi

The research article published by Owain Graham analyzing the experiences of listening to icaros during ayahuasca ceremonies at the Takiwasi is one of the most read papers in the academic journal Anthropology of Consciousness.

The research on the role of the icaros during ayahuasca ceremonies carried out in Takiwasi by Owain Graham, PhD in ethnomusicology at University of California Riverside, has been widely disseminated in different media. Some results that emerge are the therapeutically significant impact of ikaros, as they allow patients to feel safe while at the same time guiding them through difficult memories and emotions and facilitating healing and learning experiences about their addictions triggered by ayahuasca ingestion.
